In Memory of Rylee Greene (November 17, 2023)

. . . Wisconsin state troopers got calls about a 2020 Ford Fusion heading west in the eastbound lanes . . .

The Fusion then crashed into a semi-truck by milepost 16 near Baldwin. . .

The driver of the Fusion, Rylee Greene, 26, from Hammond, Wisconsin, was killed in the crash. Authorities identify woman killed in Wisconsin wrong-way crash with semi-truck on Friday

Because the bottom of a truck is higher than the bumper of passenger vehicles, when there is a collision the smaller vehicle easily slides under the truck and the first point of impact is the windshield. Seatbelts, airbags, and car crumple zones do not function as intended in underride crashes —frontside, and rear — leaving passenger vehicle occupants vulnerable to life-threatening injuries.

Major truck manufacturers have Front Underride Protection designs which can work on American trucks.

Note: In order to raise awareness and preserve the memories of underride victims — precious ones gone too soon — I have been writing memorial posts on what could potentially be underride crashes. I am not a crash reconstructionist, and I do not have all the facts on these crashes; but underride should be investigated as a potential factor in truck crash injuries and deaths.

We are asking that people send us crash reports for collisions with trucks which they suspect involved underride. Send them to marianne@annaleahmary.com. We will submit these as complaints to USDOT. Read more here: Launching a Campaign To Flood NHTSA With Underride Complaint Reports.

  1. Rylee Greene endangered many
Lives the night she died. I don’t know why she was traveling the wrong way on the interstate. It seems you are focusing on the wrong issue. Thankfully she didn’t kill anyone.

    1. I don’t know why Rylee Greene was traveling the wrong way. I, too, am thankful that no one else died. There are many issues involved in traffic fatalities. Because my daughters died due to truck underride and because I have learned how engineering solutions can make truck crashes more survivable, I have chosen to focus on this issue and devote my life to bringing about change which could save many lives — no matter what circumstances led up to the crash.

I encourage you to take some time to understand the underride issue. https://annaleahmary.com/2022/04/basic-underride-information-2/

      Thank you.
