Local woman, Ilene Viers, has died following a head-on collision on Division Street Friday afternoon. . .

Sergeant Shane Semones with the Wood County Crash Team was at the scene and said Viers’ SUV was heading North when she crossed over the center line and hit the tractor-trailer head on.

Ryan Gooding woke up at 5 a.m. and got ready for work. His drive to Coolidge from his South Phoenix home was about an hour long. . .

At 6:15 a.m., just about 20 minutes into his drive, Gooding was killed near I-10 and Chandler Boulevard when his truck was struck by a commercial vehicle.

Gooding’s truck was one of two vehicles that were sandwiched between two semis that erupted into flames. According to Georgia State Patrol, a tractor-trailer was stopped in the emergency lane when the Dodge charger driven by Furtick hit the back of the truck, got wedged underneath, and caught fire.

First responders dispatched to the scene arrived to find a Ford Mustang trapped underneath a semi truck. One person was dead inside of the car.

The coroner said the driver of a Ford F-150 was traveling north on U.S. 29 when he apparently crossed the double center line and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.

Sgt. Chase Elkins said it appeared a Freightliner was stopped in the northbound lane due to standing water on the interstate. A Poplarville man driving a Toyota Corolla was traveling north and ran into the back of the Freightliner.
