In Memory of Aymeric Dupre la Tour ( May 29, 2022)

A musician from Niantic was killed in a crash in Madison on Sunday morning when his car collided with the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95, according to Connecticut State Police.

Aymeric Dupre la Tour, a 49-year-old musician trained at The Julliard School, was driving his Subaru Forester in the left lane of I-95 southbound near Exit 60 in Madison about 7:30 a.m. Sunday when a tractor-trailer in the right lane came to a stop with traffic due to a road closure up ahead, according to Connecticut State Police Troop F. Because the bottom of a truck is higher than the bumper of passenger vehicles, when there is a collision the smaller vehicle easily slides under the truck and the first point of impact is the windshield. Seatbelts, airbags, and car crumple zones do not function as intended in underride crashes —frontside, and rear — leaving passenger vehicle occupants vulnerable to life-threatening injuries.

Note: In order to raise awareness and preserve the memories of underride victims — precious ones gone too soon — I have been writing memorial posts on what could potentially be underride crashes. I am not a crash reconstructionist, and I do not have all the facts on these crashes; but underride should be investigated as a potential factor in truck crash injuries and deaths.

  1. Thank You, Aymeric Dupre la Tour, for playing your beautiful songs on the organ at Saint Theresa Church, Trumbull, CT. You played beautifully for the Memorial/Funeral Masses for my daughter, Katy, Daddy & Mother, and my Aunt, Daddy’s sister. You were graced & blessed, and will pray for us from your place in Heaven!
