As he was attempting to turn left on Clarks Hill Highway, a Dodge minivan struck the rear of his big-rig. . .
The driver of the minivan died at the scene of the crash.
The minivan driver was identified as 46-year-old Glenn Landrum, of North Augusta, according to the McCormick County Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was trapped inside the vehicle. Name given for 46-year-old who died in McCormick County crash
Because the bottom of a truck is higher than the bumper of passenger vehicles, when there is a collision the smaller vehicle easily slides under the truck and the first point of impact is the windshield. Seatbelts, airbags, and car crumple zones do not function as intended in underride crashes —front, side, and rear — leaving passenger vehicle occupants vulnerable to life-threatening injuries.
