According to a THP crash report, a 2021 Nissan Altima driven by 23-year-old Nicholas Key was going southbound on U.S. Highway 11W shortly before 1:30 p.m.
Officials said the driver of a tractor-trailer stopped at a red light at the Park Boulevard intersection. The Nissan driven by Key failed to stop, struck the trailer, and came to a final rest under the trailer. . . THP: Man killed in Rogersville crash
Because the bottom of a truck is higher than the bumper of passenger vehicles, when there is a collision the smaller vehicle easily slides under the truck and the first point of impact is the windshield. Seatbelts, airbags, and car crumple zones do not function as intended in underride crashes —front, side, and rear — leaving passenger vehicle occupants vulnerable to life-threatening injuries.
