Authorities have released the name of a woman who was killed when her vehicle slammed into a parked tractor-trailer on Interstate 59/20 Friday afternoon in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the woman as Rita Faye Thomas. . .

Almost a third of the vehicle was crushed under the truck’s trailer.

Thomas and a passenger were trapped inside. Midfield and Fairfield firefighters responded to the scene as did police and Alabama State Troopers. According to Maine State Police, the fatal accident happened on Route 1 in Topsfield around 9:15 a.m. when a tractor-trailer traveling north and a pick-up truck traveling south collided in the northbound lane. . .

Tyler Dwyer, 30, of Houlton was driving the 2009 Ford pick-up truck, owned by Bushwacker and Sons Logging incorporated out of Cary.

According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of a black 2005 Ford E-350 was traveling east on US Route 50 when, for unknown reasons, left the travel portion of the road, continued onto the slow shoulder and struck the rear of a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was parked at that location.

Troopers say a tractor-trailer and a Lexus, driven by 68-year-old Geoffrey Gattis with his wife, 68-year-old Elizabeth Gattis, in the passenger seat, slowed down in the northbound lane of the highway when another tractor-trailer, driven by a 38-year-old South Portland man, stuck them from behind.

A Spring Valley woman was killed on I-87 in Chestnut Ridge early Friday when the car she was driving struck the back of a tractor trailer that had stopped for a disabled vehicle, New York state police say.

Mardochena Louis, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:30 a.m. crash in the southbound lanes of I-87. A passenger in the 2015 Mercedes Benz, Quinten T Jackson 25, of Spring Valley, was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition. A 42-year-old man has died from his injuries after he rear-ended a semi truck on I-70 east Tuesday afternoon, state troopers said.

Aaron Donini, of Wheelersburg, Ohio was identified as state troopers as the victim of the crash.

Troopers said a separate rollover crash had occurred in the median of I-70 near U.S. 35 around 3 p.m. Tuesday and traffic was slowing at the crash site. . . . a 16-year-old died Monday in a head-on collision.

Matthew Eric Thornton, of Ruffin, was killed in the crash on Highway 17 Alternate near Clubhouse Road, approximately 10 miles south of Summerville, Coroner Paul Brouthers said.

A 61-year-old Upper Macungie Township man was killed when his sport utility vehicle was pinned under a tractor-trailer in a Monday night crash in Bucks County.

Eryk Sanchinelli was driving a Honda CRV that went under a Freightliner tractor-trailer at 9:47 p.m. on southbound Route 309, between Hilltop and Mine roads, in Springfield Township, south of Coopersburg, state police said. Investigation of the scene showed that a 2016 Nissan Maxima, being driven by Bailyn D. Fruge, 22, of Elton, was traveling west on us 190 when he struck the rear of a 2011 Nisan Titan being driven by John G. Lomas Jr., 54, of Kinder.

Troopers say the impact caused Lomas to lose control of his vehicle and cross the center line into the opposing lane striking a 2017 Volvo tractor-trailer head-on.

The driver, Edgar Navarro, 24, and passengers Idayalid Bautista, 25 and Alexa Navarro, 4, of Westminster, CO were the victims of a fatal accident near mile marker 167.

Two passengers, including a three-year-old girl and an 11-month-old girl, suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the accident. Bautista was the mother of all three children.

The NSP reported Edgar Navarro was driving eastbound on I-80 at about 10:41 a.m. when winter weather conditions caused the vehicle to cross the median and collide with a westbound semi.
