In Memory of David Eads (November 17, 2021)

. . .  the big rig was backing out of a private drive onto US 69.

The ambulance, belonging to the UT East Texas Health System, was coming southbound and was not able to stop.

It wound up underneath the side of the truck.

Because the bottom of a truck is higher than the bumper of passenger vehicles, when there is a collision the smaller vehicle easily slides under the truck and the first point of impact is the windshield. Seatbelts, airbags, and car crumple zones do not function as intended in underride crashes —frontside, and rear — leaving passenger vehicle occupants vulnerable to life-threatening injuries.

In Memory of Antwa-Demaylia Hughes (November 10, 2021)

Antwa-Demaylia Hughes, 25, was southbound on Minnesota 47 around 1:20 p.m. when his Buick sedan crossed into the northbound lane near 199th Avenue Northwest and struck the truck, the sheriff’s office said. Both vehicles caught fire, and Hughes was later pronounced dead at the scene in northern Anoka County. Bloomington man identified as victim of Anoka County truck collision

In Memory of John Hawkins (November 10, 2021)

Illinois State Police identified the victim as John W. Hawkins, 72, a news release states. Hawkins was a passenger in an SUV driven by Paul J. Hawkins, 46, of St. Louis. Paul Hawkins was injured and taken to an area hospital, according to the release. . . .

State police said the Hawkins vehicle tried to cut between the tractor-trailer and another vehicle traveling in the slow lane. The Hawkins SUV then struck the passenger-side rear of the trailer and went off the road, coming to rest against a sign, the release states. In Memory of Billie Nickelson (November 10, 2021)

A crash report from the highway patrol said the driver of a 2010 Chevy Cobalt crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a tractor-trailer head-on. The driver of the Cobalt, 21-year-old Billie Nickelson, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  Man killed in tractor-trailer crash in Ste. Genevieve County

Paul Woodell, 76, of U.S. 1 Business in Cameron was driving southbound on U.S. 1 Business when his vehicle struck a tractor trailer that was parked halfway in the southbound lane and halfway on the shoulder. In Memory of Cody Tietjens (November 10, 2021)

According to the report, an initial investigation revealed that the passenger car traveled westbound and crossed over in the eastbound lane, striking the rear axles of a trailer.

The driver of the passenger car was declared dead at the scene. Cody Tietjens, 19, of Lancaster, was identified as the driver of the car. East Lampeter Township police investigate Wednesday afternoon fatal crash

A 17-year-old Boyd Buchanan student died after rear-ending a logging truck on Highway 111 Wednesday, according to a release from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Grace Eleanor Mitchell was from Dunlap and a junior at Boyd Buchanan School, according to her obituary. Boyd Buchanan student died in logging truck accident, Upper school closed Thursday

In Memory of William Turner (November 7, 2021)

The crash happened around 4 a.m. Sunday when a 2007 Ford Edge went left of center while traveling south on South Carolina Highway 121. The Edge crashed into a tractor trailer head-on.

The driver of the Edge was wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, authorities reported.

He was identified as William Allen Turner III, 26, of Troy. Head-on collision kills 26-year-old in Edgefield County

In Memory of Lyndell Lamont Brown (November 5, 2021)

A 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix and a 2015 Freightliner semi box truck had collided head-on just south of the intersection, according to the release. The driver of the Pontiac, Lyndell Lamont Brown, 42, of Des Moines, did not survive the crash. Two passengers remain hospitalized with serious injuries and are expected to survive. . . . a Toyota 4 Runner and tractor trailer crashed at Rolling Mill Road and Baltimore Street just before 8:15 p.m.

The two collided as the driver of the SUV was driving southbound in the northbound lane of traffic.
