In Memory of KellyAnn Mooney (August 17, 2021)

A New York woman was killed when the car she was riding in crashed into a tractor-trailer parked on Interstate 78 in Berks County.

Kellyann Mooney, 40, of Suffolk County, died at the scene of the crash. . .

The driver of the car and two backseat passengers — a 13-year-old and a 7-year-old — were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, authorities said. NY woman killed in crash on Interstate 78 in Berks

Because the bottom of a truck is higher than the bumper of passenger vehicles, when there is a collision the smaller vehicle easily slides under the truck and the first point of impact is the windshield. Seatbelts, airbags, and car crumple zones do not function as intended in underride crashes —frontside, and rear — leaving passenger vehicle occupants vulnerable to life-threatening injuries.

In Memory of Sharon Knight (August 4, 2021)

A car was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it struck the tractor-trailer head-on.

State police said the driver of the car, identified as 54-year-old Sharon Knight of Waterbury, was killed on the scene. Police identify woman killed in crash on I-691 Eastbound in Southington

In Memory of Jonathan Zandani (August 5, 2021)

A 2013 Fiat 500 was heading south on the interstate when it collided with a 2022 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was also heading south and was slowing down to take an exit ramp, according to a news release.

The driver of the Fiat was Jonathan A. Zandani, 38, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. One dead in Rockingham County crash involving tractor-trailer

In Memory of Luis Fernando Cevallos (August 4, 2021)

A North Arlington driver and his female passenger from Bergenfield were killed when their speeding sedan slammed into the side of a tractor-trailer. . .

Luis Fernando Cevallos, 24, and his as-yet unidentified 27-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. . .

The tractor-trailer, whose driver was making an early delivery, was perpendicular across Route 1&9 when it was struck behind the rear wheel. . .

. . . 61-year-old Gheorghe Ghenciu, of Maryland, was killed in the crash. . .

Troopers said the driver of the semi slowed down because of backed-up traffic. Ghenciu, who was driving a van, didn’t slow down and rear-ended the semi, troopers said.
